Matusek & Rowe Off to a Killer Start in 2014
4 min read
If you pay attention to Pro Mod racing at all , then you probably know that Aeromotive Founder and President, Steve Matusek stabled his twin-turbo Roush Yates powered Pro Mod Mustang for the 2014 season and announced last year at the PRI Show that he will be driving for Danny Rowe Racing this season. (Release below)
Fast forward to late April 2014, Matusek and Rowe are off to a great start. The first race of the year, The Gatornationals in Gainesville FL, Danny qualifies #1 and Steve qualifies #8. In addition, this was the first time Steve ever went 1320 feet in this car. While doing so he also set a career best 5.904-second, 246.26mph blast. Matusek and Rowe both went rounds setting themselves up for a showdown in the quarterfinals. Rowe bested Matusek and eventually went down in the semi's to reigning champion, Rickie Smith.
Following up their performance in Gainesville, the Agave Underground Tequila Team, headed to Houston for the Spring Nats. Staying on course, both cars go right to semi's. This time, not up against each other. Unfortunately, they would both go down. Rowe loses on hole shot and Matusek has trouble on the starting line slipping through beams. Regardless, hard to consider either of the first two races of the season as anything but a success.
Stay tuned for more news and updates from Aeromotive, Danny Rowe Racing and the Agave Underground Tequila Team...
Steve Matusek to drive supercharged ’68 Camaro for danny Rowe Racing for the 2014 NHRA Pro Mod Season
Lenexa, KS – December 2013 – You heard it correctly! Aeromotive’s Steve Matusek is trading in a set of turbos for a supercharger. Danny Rowe, driver of the Agave Underground Tequila Supercharged ’68 Pro Mod Camaro and Danny Rowe Racing (DRR) have teamed up with Steve Matusek and Aeromotive for the 2014 season. Matusek will drive the second car for DRR, also a supercharged ’68 Camaro. “The opportunity came up towards the end of the season and a after a little deliberation, I just couldn’t pass it up,” said Matusek.
This comes on the heels of the recent announcement from NHRA in regards to the Pro Mod series and the 2014 season. Both Danny Rowe and Steve Matusek are founding members of the Real Pro Mod Association (RPM), the group attributed with keeping the NHRA Pro Mod Series strong and viable as well as bringing in new sponsors and the upcoming TV series to be featured on Velocity. “RPM and our involvement in the series only strengthened the relationship between Danny and I, and made this move make even more sense,” Matusek continued. “Danny has had tremendous success and his crew chief, Jimmy Rector is top notch. I am extremely excited to be a part of the team!”
In addition to the tremendous reputation of DRR and their team, a move like this makes even more sense for Aeromotive’s racing program. Last year, Aeromotive released a new fuel pump for the blown alcohol and nostalgia funny car market. Proven on Matusek’s alcohol injected turbo pro mod, this pump is the perfect option for the Pro Mod and alcohol classes. Expect to see these new pumps in full force throughout the 2014 season.
The 2014 NHRA Pro Mod season is a 10 race series that kicks off in Gainesville, FL in March. Expect to see both Steve and Danny flying the Agave Tequila flag in a pair of beautiful blown Pro Mods.
